Gateshead
North East
Big Local in Gateshead includes three neighbourhoods in Gateshead: Teams, Derwentwater and Racecourse.
We have an Interim Steering Group that consists of local residents, community and voluntary sector groups and representatives from Gateshead Council, the Primary Care Trust, Northumbria Police, Gateshead Housing Company, a local GP and local churches.
So far we have concentrated on talking to local residents to find out what they think about where they live and to gather their ideas for improvement. We have also identified the services and resources that exist within the Big Local area. This will help us develop our Big Local Community Plan.
Case study: Getting young people involved in Big Local Teams, Derwentwater and Racecourse
Full of pride and potential, this Big Local area near Gateshead is already building trust, involvement, energy and innovation – thanks to everything from ‘community mapping’ to balloon modelling by the local vicar.
